Sometimes when I start writing these descriptions I know I’m going to struggle to fill the word count without waffle. Linton needs no such padding, it’s a place of plenty. Nurseries, primary and secondary schools, shops, pubs, cafes, public buildings, parks, even a Zoo. It’s very much the sort of village you can live in without the need to jump in the car for day-to-day needs. It’s about 8 miles south east of Cambridge along the A1307, with the science and tech parks of Granta Park and Babraham on the way. Open-air enthusiasts can walk up through the woods of Rivey Hill to get a smashing view from by the old Victorian water tower or keep going and join the old Roman Road for longer-distance shenanigans.

Linton is perhaps the best of both worlds, big enough to be practical if you want to walk to facilities, small enough and far enough away from town to feel like a traditional, historic, country village. The only thing it’s not ideal for is commuting by train to London, with the nearest mainline station 11 or so miles away at Audley End, but if you don’t mind a drive to the station or don’t need the station at all this fact makes its house prices usefully lower than the village south and west of it that are on railway lines, and less busy too.
