Cooke Curtis & Co is an estate agent based in Cambridge offering sales and lettings services together with advice on new homes and planning and all other aspects of residential property.
We are locally owned and operated by long experienced professional Estate Agents who have always called Cambridge home and have a deep understanding of the City and surrounding villages.
We are small enough that we are able to care for each client personally, but large enough to provide exceptional marketing that achieves the best possible price in the least possible time.
We are a responsible business. We aim to be a low carbon company, to operate ethically and to be valuable members of the Cambridge community.
We are experienced in all aspects of residential property, including sales and lettings, planning, development and buy-to-let.
We are interested in you. We see Estate Agency as being as much about people as property. Our job is to work for you, to help you achieve the best possible outcome in your particular situation.
Here is our broad plan for a more environment friendly future for our little business. We are going to replace the last two CC&C pool cars that burn fossil fuels with electric cars. Our current balance is 3 electric (bought second-hand) and 2 fossil fuel. By the end of 2020 we plan to make it 5-0. Or maybe even 4-0 if we can make that work.
Realistically though electric cars are not the answer. Walking and cycling is. Our plan is therefore to increase the number of appointments we conduct on foot and by bike. We currently have 3 pool bicycles (reclaimed and refurbished from the Post Office by a charity who give one to families in Malawi for each one we buy), but these only really work well over short distances, so in 2020 we are going to look at electric bikes to increase our car-free range. We actually think electric scooters (the stand on type, not mopeds) would be a brilliant solution for us to whizz about on, but for now they are not legal to use anywhere, which is something of a limitation. Maybe we will join a lobby group to address this.
The biggest part of our transport strategy, though, is to travel less by working on route-planning efficiency. Bunching nearby appointments together to totally avoid unnecessary journeys is far better than making each journey by more efficient means.
For 2020 we are also working towards printing less and using only recycled and FSC-certified papers in what we do print. We already print far less than many in the industry and less than we did, but we can do better.
Our offices were overhauled in 2019 with improved insulation and the removal of the previous gas heating system to be replaced with electric, plus full LED and low-energy lighting. Sam remains a vegan (the nice, non-preachy kind) and Jamie has bought a camper van so he can explore the world without as much need for aeroplane use. We continue to try to use small, local suppliers where we possibly can.
Other suggestions gratefully received. Modest or ambitious.
