Why Aldi (and CC&C) Keep Winning

You’ve probably noticed it. Aldi plastering awards across bus stops, TV, radio, and the side of every delivery van: “Which? Supermarket of the Year” — again. You may have even noticed yourself and your peers in their stores, embracing their stripped back aesthetic, wonderfully efficient staff and fumbling around in the middle aisle for that perfectly scented candle and a cordless leaf blower.

You may wonder, about their success? After all, don’t all supermarkets basically do the same thing? They find food suppliers, They negotiate prices, They buy in bulk, They transport it to depots, They stock shelves, stack fridges, and put bananas on display, They open the doors, switch on the tills, and smile at customers (mostly).

Tesco does it. Sainsbury’s does it. Waitrose does it, in their own inimitable way. Aldi does it too. On paper, the process looks identical. And yet, year after year, Aldi walks away with the award.

Let's use Aldi as a metaphor for the Cambridge Estate Agency marketplace. We find sellers, We book valuations, We prepare floor plans, photography, and descriptions, We put homes online, We host viewings, We negotiate offers and we progress sales through to completion.

Tick, tick, tick. The very same steps every other agent in Cambridge takes. And yet, just like Aldi, we consistently outperform the competition. With just one office, Cooke Curtis & Co sells more homes than any other Cambridge agent.

So, What’s the Difference?
It isn’t the what. It’s the how. Aldi keeps things simple. They don’t distract with dozens of variations of the same product. (Do you need 14 brands of baked beans? They’ve already chosen the one that’s good enough to win awards.) They’re relentless on quality and price. Quietly, consistently, without fuss. They’ve built trust. People know what to expect, and they deliver it every time.

Swap “beans” for “bungalows” and you’ve got us.

We keep things clear. No gimmicks, no over-promises. We obsess over the details. Photography that actually makes buyers book a viewing. Descriptions that buyers read, not scroll past. Sales progression that keeps your move on track. We deliver. Not once, not twice, but again and again — hence the market share, the reviews, and the results.

The Awards We Care About
The difference between Aldi and us? Like us they’ve got a trophy cabinet. But we’ve got something in addition: sold boards, happy clients, and a track record that makes us the number one single-office agent in Cambridge. Because whether you’re buying your weekly groceries or selling your biggest asset, the process may be the same everywhere… but the results are not.

The Curtis Wink
So next time you walk past an Aldi “Supermarket of the Year” poster, think of us. Doing what every agent does — but doing it better. And if you’re thinking of selling, come to the Aldi of estate agency. Except, you know… with better suits. As we reflect when we nervously put our names above the door all those years ago, to supply delighted customers not intoxicating liquor, we would never have dreamt of our subsequent success, very much in the same way as we would never imagined describing ourselves as the Aldi of estate agency!
