Hauxton is a number 3 in the list of H…ton Cambridge villages that so confuse newcomers, fitting alphabetically between neighbouring Harston and Hilton. Geographically Hinxton, Histon and Harlton are nearer than Hilton and Helpston and Houghton are miles away so easier to ignore. The village is off the A10, next to Little Shelford and very easily accessed from Cambridge, being less than 2 miles from the southwest city boundary at Trumpington. It has a range of amenities including a recreation ground with modern play equipment and a new community centre, sports pitches, an organic health shop, ancient parish church, community swimming pool and a well-regarded primary school.

There are more comprehensive facilities, as well as a station providing services into London Liverpool Street, in Great Shelford or next door Harston has a good shop, post office and the like. There are good cycle routes to Cambridge, including a newly opened cycleway across to Trumpington Park and Ride and on to the Guided Busway cycle route, plus a regular bus service to Addenbrooke's Hospital and into the city, It's a smaller village and despite its proximity to good things carries much less through traffic than its neighbours.
